Position Summary/Description:

Reporting to the Communications and Outreach Manager, the Communications and Marketing Specialist is responsible for identifying content and communication opportunities in support of RENCI’s internal and external strategic goals and the strategic goals of UNC-Chapel Hill. The position will support selected sponsored research projects through specialized knowledge in communication, public relations, social media, and outreach best practices.

The position requires a candidate with: excellent oral and written communication skills; strong knowledge of public relations, expert knowledge of social media best practices, working knowledge of web communications technologies; interpersonal communication, human relations, and team building skills; project management skills; an ability to foster and maintain collaborations with both academic and industrial researchers; and an ability to write and edit academic presentations and reports.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Essential Skills:

Demonstrated experience in communication, design, and visual art concepts. Thorough knowledge of planning, writing, editing, and producing content. Ability to establish and maintain a variety of working relationships. Ability to explain strategic options for communication plans with their colleagues. Ability to understand the internal workings of a sponsored research project or department in relation to the external expectations of the clients and stakeholders.

Preferred :

Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, or a similar discipline. Candidate should be able to demonstrate expertise in the required areas via portfolios or previous work product.
