The Marketing and Communications Specialist reports to the EarthLab Communications and Engagement Lead, supporting the execution of EarthLab communications strategies and helping to increase and diversify our engagement with a wide variety of stakeholders.

Using visuals and written word, this position is instrumental in educating/sharing stories about EarthLab’s mission and programs and amplifying voices of our eight member organizations and community within and outside of the UW. We are looking for an individual who is extremely organized, exhibits attention to detail, is comfortable being responsible for several tasks simultaneously, engages with audiences/people from a wide spectrum of backgrounds and will welcome new challenges. With support from supervisors, the specialist will manage multiple projects that require different degrees of independence and team-based collaboration. Specific duties for the Marketing and Communications Specialist include: •Lead social media strategy and engagement for EarthLab channels (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube) and support/amplify/lead EarthLab member organization social media content as required; •Co-lead EarthLab planning and execution of events, both virtual and in-person when available (e. g. , seminars, webinars and workshops), and coordination among UW, College of the Environment, EarthLab and EarthLab member groups, participants and attendees; •Design materials that convey complex scientific or organizational information that is intended for a public audience, including reports, presentations, written materials, infographics, multimedia, etc. , using accessible and inclusive graphic design principles; •Assist with strategic and digital communications planning and implementation, including but not limited to: website maintenance and updating; tracking and interpreting website analytics; listserv (email distribution) management, newsletters and email marketing; developing strategic communication plans, engagement tracking and evaluation efforts; •Additional duties as needed in support of the EarthLab mission As a UW employee, you will enjoy generous benefits and work/life programs. , communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, etc. )AND 2 years of professional experience in a communications role •Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment •Proven experience in designing and maintaining social media presence for an organization •Proven experience planning and executing in-person and/or virtual events that engage broad audiences •Proven experience with electronic and multimedia publishing tools using accessible and inclusive UX/design principles (e. g. , Adobe InDesign and Illustrator) •Excellent communications skills: written, editorial, oral •Demonstrated initiative and ability to adapt and thrive in a rapidly changing and fast-paced environment Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.
